Calgary Islamic School (CIS) provides an Islamic learning environment with a commitment to using effective teaching pedagogy to cultivate and advance a comprehensive academic program, which is fully compliant with the Alberta curriculum of studies. CIS is a K-12 alternative school faith-based program operated under Prairie Rose Public Schools In alignment with Alberta Education's direction under Bill 25, the Learning Support Teacher (LST) role is shifting from case management and IPP coordination toward a student-facing intervention model focused on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes. The LST will provide direct Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students identified through provincial literacy and numeracy screeners, classroom assessments, and teacher referrals. Key responsibilities include delivering evidence-based literacy interventions, including structured literacy approaches such as EBLI, and targeted numeracy interventions focused on number sense, fluency, proportional reasoning, and algebraic thinking. The LST will administer and interpret assessments, monitor student progress, maintain intervention data, and collaborate with teachers to support student achievement. The successful candidate will work closely with administration, classroom teachers, families, and divisional support staff to ensure interventions are responsive, effective, and aligned with classroom instruction. They will also participate in school-based intervention teams and engage in ongoing professional learning related to literacy, numeracy, and inclusive education.
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Education and a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. • Calgary Islamic School experience — minimum of 3 years. • Demonstrated success implementing differentiated instruction and targeted interventions within the classroom setting. • Ability to provide evidence of effective interventions and measurable student growth. • Strong understanding of evidence-based literacy and numeracy practices. • Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
Terms of Employment
• 1.0 FTE — Probationary Contract • August 27, 2026 — June 29, 2027
About Prairie Rose Public Schools:
Prairie Rose School Division is primarily located in the South-Eastern region of Alberta in the communities of: Bow Island, Cypress County, County of 40 Mile, Foremost, MD of Acadia Valley, Oyen, Redcliff and Special Areas, along with two schools in the City of Calgary. The Division consists of 18 public schools, 2 Outreach schools, 2 Alternative Program schools, and 18 Hutterite Colony schools and educates approximately 6500 students. Our Division office is located in Dunmore, Alberta, near the city of Medicine Hat.
